Calla In The Hydrangeas

Calla In The Hydrangeas
8"x6"  oil on canvas panel $150.Sold.

A Happy Easter or A Happy Passover
A special time for us all.

Artist Note

The move is over and we
are almost settled in...that is
not exactly right....my hubby settled in
the very first hour of the second day!
Good to see him so happy.

I have missed my painting terribly.
I have still been teaching regularly but
my quiet painting time
has been zip.
For me, it doesn't flow back right away.
It takes several sessions of an intensive
submersion.
Are any of you the same way?

Anyway - this painting was the 12th
try on the same subject. Ha!
The hydrangeas changed a lot
but the lily stayed pretty much the same
for the duration.

P.S.

I did paint kitchen cabinets and walls
but it is definitely not the same joy!

  1. Nice to see you back, Julie. Moving home is always unsettling ... but eventually it feels like you've lived at the new address for ages. Yes I feel it difficult to get back into to things, which is why I'm focused on the first major Pen & Ink in years - it's a medium I'm fully in control of and therefore less of a struggle to get right. Happy Easter or whatever folk celebrate

    1. Thanks John. I remember when it was good to have you back too. You are a master of Pen & ink so cant wait to see.

  2. So glad to see you back on here. I am exactly the same way. If I haven't painted for an extended period of time, I seem to put it off even longer and it takes a while before the brush feels like part of my hand again. This is stunning.

    1. Thanks Sharon. I really enjoy your Friday posts on artists. Eva Gonzaled was one i had never heard of so it was extra fascinating. You are a good researcher.

  4. Yes Julie, so good to see you back. You need to put that man to work! I do hope you will begin enjoying your new space soon. Mike and I have been talking more about selling. Not really because we want less space and responsibility of upkeep, but rather to discourage family members from wanting to live with us. It's been difficult to say "no." Anyway, it is great to see you posting. Much love,
    Carol

  5. Love your paintings, glad you are back. Our move from the East Coast to the West was a major upheaval. It took me a while to regroup after the move.

    1. I love your work, Gail but see nothing for a while. Is that due to the move you did this year? If so i am good being back after 5 weeks. Hope you are back soon. Thanks for visiting.

    1. Aw...so sweet, thanks, Jane.
Happy you noticed the fracturing transfers color. Remember Chagall...all colors are friends of their neighbors
I enjoyed catching up with your wonderful posts.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Cathy. I really enjoyed going back on your posts and seeing what you have been up to. Your latest with the computer app worked very well and I enjoyed having a choice on the two previous, single color harmonies that you did with Daniels.

  11. Can't believe the beautiful painting you are able to make amid all the chaos of moving Julie. What an inspiration you are. I spent another week on crutches after injuring my knee. Kept painting and will post this week. Hope you had a wonderful Easter.

  12. Oh noooo...I hate to hear that., Blanche. At least you kept painting and I have something to look forward to. Sending a prayer for complete recovery. Plus a big HUG!

  13. Julie, it is good to see you had enough time to 12 tries of the same subject...and then came up with this beauty!!! Love the colors and the textures in this. I hope your painting time increases and you are filled with inspiration.

  14. No painting the kitchen cabinets is not the same measure of gratification at all...haha! The curve and lovely reflected whites are so lovely in this lily. Your work always remains so fresh!
